Hailey and I have enjoyed taking care of Elena these past few months. However, we’re giving it up at the end of this semester since we’ll be gone so long for Christmas and since we’re expecting a new baby in May. Hailey will miss her little friend, but we hope to have lots of play dates together in the future!
Our last hurrah with Elena was a Christmas party that Melissa (Elena’s mom) and I planned for the girls and all of the other little girls in our ward who are close to their age. We organized Christmas stations in the basement that included coloring, opening gifts, making Fruit Loop necklaces and sorting various Christmas objects (i.e. tinsel, ornaments, candy canes and pine boughs). The highlight of the party was making waffle houses (instead of gingerbread houses). Melissa had a brilliant idea to use cream cheese instead of frosting and to decorate the houses with fruit instead of candy. It was nice to just let the girls go at it without worrying about how much sugar they were consuming. Melissa also found a recipe for cream cheese penguins–so cute!
